If you’re here because you want to Work At Home, there are many discussions I would like you to begin having with yourself about it! There are many things to consider if being in your pajamas at 12:00 noon is what you’re hoping for as a result of your choice! Or, maybe you’d rather be sitting on a white sand beach with your laptop! If you‘re already working from home, and all is well, then skip this page!
Are you married? If so, does your spouse work? How do they feel about the prospects of you working from home? What are their hours? Do you have kids? Does your spouse expect you to take care of the kids while you work from home? Do YOU expect that you can Work At Home while caring for the kids?
It’s amazing how one little detail can throw your entire plan into a tailspin, when considering the options. Of course much of it has to do with just what exactly you will be doing for work at home.
Will you need a clean, quiet place to work? Can you do a good job while the TV is on? Will the sound of kids screaming and playing deter you from what work needs to be done on time? Will your wife expect that dinner will be cooked by you, since you were home anyway? If she’s at home with you all day, will you still be glad to fall into her arms at 5:00? Will your husband still help with the housework even though you were home all day?
Until you carefully consider each end every one of these questions, I suggest doing a trial run some how. Take a weekday, or whatever day you have off now, and spend eight hours of it doing something other than family time. Explain to each member of your family that you will be tied up in the office today and that you need some time to do a few things. I advise doing this when everyone will be home so you can see how you deal with all of the interruptions.
If this is something you’ve already worked out, then I suppose I will have to wish you luck, and congratulations! If you don’t yet Work At Home, I suggest you make a list of circumstances to help enable your success!
